Cultural healing tested to fight opioid crisis in native communities
NCT ID NCT04617938
Summary
This study tested a culturally centered program designed to prevent opioid, alcohol, and marijuana misuse among American Indian and Alaska Native young adults (ages 18-25) in California. Researchers compared a new program called TACUNA, which blends motivational group sessions and traditional wellness circles, against a standard opioid education workshop. The goal was to see if the culturally tailored approach better reduced substance use and strengthened community connections over 12 months.
