Morphine-Free heart surgery: safer recovery?

NCT ID NCT04940689

First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tested whether avoiding morphine during heart surgery could lower the risk of serious complications like breathing trouble, confusion, and gut paralysis. 268 adults having planned heart surgery were randomly assigned to receive either standard morphine-based anesthesia or an opioid-free mix of other pain drugs. The goal was to see if the opioid-free approach leads to fewer major problems in the first 48 hours after surgery.
