Blood test may let HPV throat cancer patients avoid radiation after surgery

NCT ID NCT07513389

First seen Apr 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study is for people with HPV-related throat cancer who have surgery to remove the tumor. Usually, some patients get radiation after surgery to lower the risk of cancer coming back. This trial tests whether patients with low or medium risk features and a negative blood test for cancer DNA two weeks after surgery can safely skip that radiation. Instead, they will be closely monitored with regular exams and blood tests to catch any return of cancer early.
