New breathing technique may reduce oxygen drops during lung surgery
NCT ID NCT05525312
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a personalized 'open lung' breathing method during lung cancer surgery to see if it prevents low oxygen levels better than standard care. The method adjusts air pressure based on each patient's lung stiffness. 120 adults scheduled for lung cancer removal will be randomly assigned to one of two ventilation strategies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could establish a safer way to ventilate patients during lung cancer surgery, reducing the risk of low oxygen levels and lung injury.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial (120 participants) testing a technique already used in other surgeries, so results may not apply broadly or show clear benefit over standard care.
