New online training could speed up swallowing checks for stroke patients
NCT ID NCT05379699
First seen May 16, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested whether an online training program can effectively teach healthcare workers to screen stroke patients for swallowing problems (dysphagia). Swallowing difficulties affect about 55% of stroke patients and increase pneumonia risk. The study involved 82 healthcare professionals with no prior swallowing screening training. If successful, the online program could replace the current 4-hour in-person training, saving hospital resources and making screening more widely available.
