Summary

Researchers are testing a 10-week online cognitive behavioural therapy programme designed for women with moderate depressive symptoms. The programme includes weekly self-guided modules on topics like hormonal changes, body image, caregiving, and sexism, plus six one-to-one video sessions with a psychologist. Participants also give biological samples so researchers can look for hormone and metabolic markers that might predict who responds best. The trial compares the programme plus usual care against brief psychoeducational videos plus usual care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
an online cognitive behavioural therapy programme for women, with weekly modules and six video sessions with a psychologist
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer women a structured, psychologist-supported online therapy they can do from home. The biological samples could also help doctors predict who benefits most from this kind of treatment.
What could go wrong
Online therapy does not work for everyone, and some women may drop out before finishing the 10 weeks. The biological markers are exploratory, so they may not reliably predict who responds. The trial is small and limited to Spanish-speaking women aged 18 to 45.
