Sleepio shows promise for Post-Stroke insomnia in small trial

NCT ID NCT04272892

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether an online cognitive behavioural therapy program called Sleepio could improve sleep in people who have had a stroke. 86 chronic stroke survivors were randomly assigned to either use Sleepio for 6 weeks or receive a leaflet with basic sleep tips. The main goal was to see if Sleepio led to better sleep quality, measured by a standard questionnaire.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Online cognitive behavioural therapy (Sleepio)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a convenient, drug-free way to improve sleep quality for stroke survivors.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with 86 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke survivors. The intervention is behavioural, so benefits may vary and require consistent engagement.
