New radiation technique aims to spare healthy tissue in cervical cancer
NCT ID NCT06562166
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares online adaptive radiotherapy (oART) to standard image-guided radiotherapy for cervical cancer. oART adjusts the radiation beam daily based on the tumor's changing shape and position. The goal is to reduce side effects like bowel and bladder problems while keeping the cancer under control. The trial plans to enroll 124 women with stage Ib3 to IIIC1 cervical cancer who are also receiving chemotherapy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
online adaptive radiotherapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more precise radiation method that reduces bladder and bowel side effects while maintaining or improving cancer control.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 trial with only 124 participants, so results are preliminary. The technique is complex and may not be widely available or show clear benefit over standard image-guided radiotherapy.
