Can an online course quiet the rage of misophonia?
NCT ID NCT07220941
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether an 8-module online program based on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) can help adults with misophonia feel less distressed by trigger sounds. One hundred participants will be randomly assigned to either start the program right away or join a waitlist. The main goal is to see if the online therapy reduces misophonia severity and is easy for people to use.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) delivered as an online self-help program
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide an accessible, low-cost online treatment option for people with misophonia to help manage their reactions to trigger sounds.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial (100 people) testing a digital self-help version of therapy, which may be less effective than in-person sessions. The waitlist control design means any benefits might be partly due to time or attention, and long-term effects are not yet known.
