Radioactive microparticles aim to boost chemo against tough pancreatic cancer
NCT ID NCT05466799
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether adding tiny radioactive beads (OncoSil™) directly into the tumor can improve outcomes for people with locally advanced pancreatic cancer that cannot be removed by surgery. About 88 participants will receive either standard FOLFIRINOX chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy plus the implanted radiation. The study tracks safety and how well the tumor is controlled at 16 weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- OncoSil™ (phosphorus-32 microparticles) plus FOLFIRINOX chemotherapy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a new treatment option that improves local tumor control and survival for people with inoperable pancreatic cancer.
- What could go wrong
- This is a phase 2 trial with only 88 participants, so results are preliminary. Adding a device to chemotherapy may increase side effects, and the treatment may not improve outcomes enough to reach standard practice.
