First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study tests whether obeticholic acid can prevent cancer in people with Barrett's esophagus, a condition that raises the risk of esophageal cancer. The drug works by reducing damage from bile acids that flow back into the esophagus. About 30 adults with Barrett's esophagus will take the drug or a placebo to see if it lowers certain cell changes linked to cancer risk.
