First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This Phase 2a trial tests whether adding an oral drug called ECC4703 to the weekly injection semaglutide helps adults with obesity lose more weight and reduce liver fat. About 151 participants will take either ECC4703 or a placebo alongside semaglutide for 20 weeks. The study is active but no longer recruiting, and results will show if the combination is safe and effective.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ECC4703 (oral drug) added to semaglutide (injectable drug)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a more effective weight-loss treatment by combining two drugs, potentially helping people with obesity lose more weight and reduce liver fat.
What could go wrong
This is an early Phase 2a trial with only 151 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug combination could cause side effects, and it's not yet known if it works better than semaglutide alone.
