NYC study tests whether neighbors can boost cancer screening
NCT ID NCT05742178
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing two ways to help people in New York City get screened for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer. One group gets educational materials plus help from a trained community health worker, while the other group gets only the materials. The goal is to see which approach works better to increase screening rates. About 2,160 adults who are due for screening will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Patient navigation by community health workers and tailored educational materials
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that community health workers are an effective way to boost cancer screening in underserved groups, potentially reducing cancer deaths.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral study, not a drug trial, so results may vary by community. It compares two strategies, so one may not be clearly better. Also, screening rates may not change much.
