Simple nutrition drink may ease chemo side effects for GI cancer patients
NCT ID NCT05980624
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether giving a daily oral nutrition supplement (300 calories) to people with gastrointestinal cancer undergoing chemotherapy could improve their body composition, nutrition status, and quality of life. 175 participants took the supplement alongside their regular treatment. The goal was to see if it helps with cancer-related weight loss and makes chemotherapy easier to tolerate.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that adding a simple daily nutrition drink helps patients feel better and tolerate chemotherapy more easily.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed Phase 2 trial, so results may not apply to all patients. The supplement may not significantly improve outcomes or prevent side effects.
