Feeding tube vs IV drip: which saves more lives in ICU?

NCT ID NCT01802099

Summary

This study tested whether feeding critically ill patients through a stomach tube (enteral) is better than feeding through an IV drip (parenteral) for reducing deaths. It involved over 2,400 adults in intensive care who needed breathing machines and blood pressure medications. Researchers randomly assigned patients to receive nutrition through one of these two methods within 24 hours to see which approach led to better survival and fewer complications.
