Hidden drug switch in nursing homes: unmonitored medications for dementia patients

NCT ID NCT06095284

Summary

This study examines whether nursing homes have been increasingly prescribing anti-seizure medications to dementia patients instead of monitored psychiatric drugs, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Researchers will analyze prescription records and health outcomes for millions of long-term nursing home residents from 2009-2021. The goal is to understand if this medication shift is causing more falls, hospital visits, or other harms without providing clear benefits.
