Can a Nurse-Guided phone app shorten insomnia therapy for older adults?
NCT ID NCT07842250
First seen Sep 25, 2026 · Last updated Sep 25, 2026
Summary
Insomnia affects many older adults and raises the risk of falls, memory problems, and heart disease. Standard talk therapy for insomnia works but takes weeks and few specialists offer it. This trial tests a four-week version delivered through a mobile app with nurse support. Researchers will compare it with face-to-face therapy and a sleep education booklet in 60 adults aged 65 and older, measuring changes in insomnia severity and sleep quality.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a nurse-guided mobile app delivering brief behavioral therapy for insomnia
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could give older adults a shorter, easier-to-reach way to treat insomnia without waiting for a specialist. It could also help health systems deliver sleep care to more people.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is small, with 60 participants, and compares the app against face-to-face therapy and a sleep education booklet. App-based care may not suit every older adult, and results from this group may not apply to everyone with insomnia.
