MRI may spare cirrhosis patients from painful scope procedure
NCT ID NCT07450651
First seen Mar 13, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a special MRI scan can safely predict which patients with hepatitis B-related cirrhosis have dangerous enlarged veins in the esophagus that could bleed. Researchers will compare the MRI results to the standard endoscopy in 150 adults. If successful, this could offer a noninvasive way to screen for high-risk varices, reducing the need for uncomfortable and risky scope exams.
