Could a tiny ear zap ease chronic jaw pain? new study aims to find out.

NCT ID NCT07517172

First seen Apr 17, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests whether a small, noninvasive device that delivers mild electrical pulses to the ear can help reduce chronic jaw and face pain from temporomandibular disorder (TMD). About 40 adults with TMD will use the device daily at home for several weeks. Researchers will measure how well people stick with the treatment and whether it lowers pain, improves mood, and helps thinking. The goal is to see if this approach is worth testing in larger studies as a drug-free option for TMD pain.
