Summary
This study is testing whether a standard deep-cleaning procedure for gum disease (scaling and root planing) changes the levels of three specific proteins in saliva. The researchers will compare these changes between smokers and non-smokers with moderate to advanced gum disease. A total of 44 adults will be treated and followed up after six weeks to see if the treatment affects both the proteins and standard measures of gum health.
