Zap away heartburn? new device aims to tame GERD without drugs
NCT ID NCT06613438
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a device called eGERD that sends mild electrical pulses to the belly to reduce acid reflux and symptoms like heartburn. 84 adults with GERD will use either the real device or a sham version at home for several weeks. Researchers will measure acid levels in the throat and track symptom changes to see if the device is safe and effective.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
eGERD device (non-invasive electrical stimulation device)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a drug-free, at-home option to ease heartburn and regurgitation for people with GERD.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial with only 84 people, and the sham comparison means the real effect may be small. The device may not work for everyone or could cause skin irritation.
