NCT ID NCT06263205

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tested whether leaving surgical wounds uncovered after gastrointestinal cancer surgery is as safe as changing the dressing every two days. Over 1,100 adults who had elective surgery for gastrointestinal cancer were randomly assigned to either no dressing changes after 48 hours or routine changes until stitches were removed. The goal was to see if skipping dressings could lower pain and costs without increasing wound complications. Results could lead to simpler, more comfortable post-surgery care.
