First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This study looked at whether using a non-invasive breathing mask (NIV) right after removing a breathing tube can prevent serious breathing problems in obese patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). About 1000 obese adults who needed a breathing tube for at least 6 hours took part. The goal was to see if NIV works better than standard oxygen therapy to avoid the need for another breathing tube.
