First seen Apr 06, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tests whether vitamin B3 (nicotinamide) is safe and helpful for people with dominant optic atrophy, a genetic condition that slowly damages the optic nerve and leads to vision loss. Researchers will give the vitamin to 25 adults with the disease and monitor for side effects and any improvement in eye function. The goal is to see if this simple supplement can protect the optic nerve and slow down vision loss.
