Heart drug repurposed to fight 'Forgotten' dementia in elderly

NCT ID NCT04120766

Summary

This study is testing whether nicorandil, an existing heart medication, is safe and might help slow brain shrinkage in older adults with a dementia type often mistaken for Alzheimer's. It will involve 64 participants aged 75+ who have this specific brain condition. The goal is to see if repurposing this known drug can offer a new treatment approach for a common but overlooked cause of memory loss.
