New hope for depression: major trial tests potential breakthrough pill

Summary

This study is testing whether a new oral medication called azetukalner can help reduce symptoms in adults with moderate-to-severe major depression. About 450 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the active drug or a placebo pill for 6 weeks, and neither they nor their doctors will know which one they get. The main goal is to see if the drug safely reduces depression symptoms better than the placebo, as measured by standard rating scales.
