Brain zap breakthrough? new stimulation pattern aims to protect thinking in Parkinson's patients
NCT ID NCT04563143
Summary
This study tested new patterns of deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease. Researchers wanted to see if using stimulation in short, timed bursts could control movement symptoms as well as the current method of constant stimulation, but with less impact on a patient's memory and thinking skills. They studied 16 patients who were already scheduled for standard DBS surgery, measuring their movement and cognitive performance under different stimulation settings.
