Brain-Zap upgrade aims to stop shakes without slurring speech
NCT ID NCT04828798
Summary
This study is testing whether a new, more focused type of deep brain stimulation (DBS) can better control essential hand tremor while causing fewer problems with speech, walking, and balance compared to the standard DBS. Researchers will compare the two techniques in 24 patients who have had tremor for at least three years. The goal is to find a treatment that stops the shaking with a wider margin of safety before side effects begin.
