Can a skin scaffold boost nerve repair in fingertip injuries?

NCT ID NCT07292415

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether wrapping a stitched finger nerve with MatriDerm, a collagen-elastin matrix normally used for skin healing, improves sensation recovery. Seventy people with traumatic finger nerve cuts will be randomly assigned to receive either standard nerve stitching alone or stitching plus MatriDerm wrapping. Researchers will measure fingertip touch sensitivity one year after surgery to see if the wrap helps.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
MatriDerm (collagen-elastin matrix)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple way to improve sensation recovery after finger nerve injuries and reduce complications like neuromas.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with only 70 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The improvement over standard stitching may be small or absent.
