Surgeons reroute nerves to restore hand movement in paralyzed patients

NCT ID NCT04023591

Summary

This study is testing whether a surgery called a nerve transfer can help people with paralysis in all four limbs (tetraplegia) regain some use of their hands and arms. Surgeons will reroute healthy nerves from a working muscle to connect to a paralyzed muscle below the injury. The goal is to improve strength, function, and quality of life. All 70 participants will receive the surgery and then undergo four years of intensive hand therapy to retrain their brains and muscles.
