Nerve blocks may ease pain and speed recovery for seniors after back surgery

NCT ID NCT05461092

First seen Apr 06, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This early study looks at whether a special type of nerve block (called TLIP) can improve pain and recovery in adults aged 65 and older having spinal fusion surgery. The blocks are given before surgery to reduce pain, opioid use, and the risk of confusion (delirium) after the operation. About 50 participants will be followed for 12 weeks to see if this approach is practical and effective.
