Nerve block showdown: which eases Post-Surgery pain best?
NCT ID NCT07001657
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested two different nerve blocks—PECS II and SPSIP—to see which provides better pain relief after breast cancer surgery. 118 women received one of the blocks before surgery, and researchers measured how much opioid painkiller they needed in the first 24 hours. The goal is to find a more effective way to manage pain and reduce opioid use.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bupivacaine hydrochloride
What this could lead to
If one block works better, it could mean less pain and fewer opioids after breast cancer surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial comparing two established techniques, so no major breakthrough is expected. Results may not apply to all patients.
