NCT ID NCT07174440
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a numbing injection (erector spinae plane block) given before lumbar spine fusion surgery. The injection contains ropivacaine, dexmedetomidine, and a contrast dye. Researchers will measure how much pain relief it provides and how far the medication spreads. 32 adults scheduled for spine fusion will participate. The goal is to improve recovery and reduce the need for opioid painkillers after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Ropivacaine, dexmedetomidine, and iohexol
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a better way to control pain after spine surgery, reducing the need for strong painkillers.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 32 participants. The results may not apply to everyone, and there are risks like allergic reactions or the block not working well.
