Extra nerve block may ease pain after knee replacement
NCT ID NCT06201195
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether adding a nerve block to the standard pain relief method improves pain control after total knee replacement. Fifty-eight adults having knee replacement under spinal anesthesia were split into two groups: one got the standard block, the other got the standard block plus an extra nerve block. Researchers measured pain scores, drain-site pain, and how soon patients needed additional painkillers.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
nerve block (anterior femoral cutaneous nerve block)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to better pain control after knee replacement surgery, especially around the drain site.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 58 participants. Results may not apply to everyone, and nerve blocks carry risks like infection or temporary weakness.
