Nerve block may soothe agitation in kids after ear surgery
NCT ID NCT07435675
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether an ultrasound-guided nerve block behind the ear can prevent agitation and confusion when children wake up from anesthesia after microscopic middle ear surgery. Researchers will compare 74 children aged 5 to 14 who receive either the nerve block or standard care. The goal is to see if the block reduces agitation and pain during recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ultrasound-guided greater auricular nerve block
What this could lead to
If it works, this could give doctors a simple way to help children wake up more calmly after ear surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 74 children. The nerve block may not reduce agitation, and there are always risks with any procedure near the ear.
