Timing is everything: new trial tests best duration of hormone therapy before breast cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT06806930

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how long hormone-blocking therapy given before surgery (neoadjuvant endocrine therapy) affects breast cancer in people with early-stage disease. About 90 participants will receive therapy for different lengths of time, from weeks up to a year. Researchers want to see if longer treatment leads to clearer surgical margins and better tumor response, and to develop a score that predicts outcomes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

neoadjuvant endocrine therapy (hormone-blocking drugs)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors personalize the duration of hormone therapy before breast cancer surgery, improving outcomes and reducing unnecessary treatment.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study (90 participants) focused on predicting response, not proving a cure. Results may not apply to all breast cancer types, and individual responses vary.
