New radiation approach before surgery may improve kidney cancer outcomes

Summary

This study tests giving a short course of high-precision radiation (SABR) to the tumor clot in the main vein before surgery to remove it. The goal is to see if this approach is safe and helps prevent the cancer from coming back within a year. About 25 adults with newly diagnosed kidney cancer and a tumor in the vena cava are being enrolled.
