A curtain with a nature scene may take the edge off thyroid biopsy
NCT ID NCT06792942
First seen Aug 27, 2026 · Last updated Aug 28, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether looking at a ceiling-mounted curtain with a nature scene during a thyroid biopsy can lower pain, anxiety, and fear. About 100 adults scheduled for an ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy will be randomly assigned to either watch the curtain during the procedure or receive standard care. Researchers will measure pain intensity, anxiety, and fear of pain before and after the biopsy to see if this simple distraction helps.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A ceiling-mounted curtain showing a nature scene, used as a visual distraction during the biopsy procedure
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this simple, drug-free distraction could become a low-cost way to make thyroid biopsies more comfortable for patients.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is small and early, and the benefit may be modest or limited to certain people. The curtain's effect depends on how well it holds attention during a short, stressful procedure.
