This study followed 20 adults aged 55 and older with geographic atrophy, an advanced form of age-related macular degeneration that causes central vision loss. Researchers measured changes in the damaged area of the eye every few months for nearly 4 years. The goal was to learn how the condition naturally progresses, not to test a treatment.
