First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a drug called etanercept against a placebo for people with severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis). Only 2 adults took part. The goal was to see if the drug speeds up skin healing and to learn more about the disease.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
etanercept
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a better treatment for severe skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
What could go wrong
This trial was very small (only 2 participants) and completed, so results may not apply widely. Etanercept can increase infection risk.
