Scientists probe why elderly lose nose defenses against colds

NCT ID NCT06039527

Summary

This study aims to understand why older adults lose important immune cells (T cells) in their noses and how this makes them more vulnerable to lung infections like pneumonia. Researchers will compare nasal and blood samples from 170 people across three groups: young adults, healthy older adults, and frail older adults. The goal is to gather knowledge about the aging immune system to inform future prevention strategies, not to test a treatment.
