Mini camera peers inside ankles to uncover hidden fracture damage
NCT ID NCT07553221
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study will use a very small camera, called a nano-arthroscope, to look inside the ankle joint of 25 people who have a severe type of ankle fracture (pilon fracture). The goal is to find out how often hidden cartilage injuries occur and whether seeing them changes the surgeon's plan for the main repair surgery. The study is only about gathering information, not testing a new treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Nano-arthroscopy (a tiny camera inserted into the ankle joint during surgery)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help surgeons better detect and treat hidden cartilage injuries in severe ankle fractures, potentially improving long-term outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study (25 people) that only looks at how often these injuries occur and if it changes surgical plans. It is not designed to prove that nano-arthroscopy improves patient recovery.
