New strategy aims to stop transplant complications in kids with blood cancer

Summary
This study tests a new way to prevent chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in children and young adults with blood cancers who receive a donor stem cell transplant. Researchers remove a specific type of immune cell (naive T cells) from the donor cells before transplant to reduce the risk of the donor cells attacking the patient's body. The trial enrolls 68 participants and aims to see if this approach is feasible and improves outcomes like survival without GVHD or relapse.
