New ultrasound software could simplify fatty liver diagnosis

NCT ID NCT07268937

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether special software on standard ultrasound machines can accurately measure liver fat in people with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Researchers compared the ultrasound results to the Fibroscan CAP method in 25 adults. The goal was to see if the ultrasound software could be a simpler, non-invasive tool for diagnosing fatty liver.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a simpler, cheaper way to diagnose fatty liver disease using standard ultrasound machines.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed comparison study with only 25 participants. The software may not be as accurate as the Fibroscan, and results may not apply to all patients.
