NCT ID NCT04435054

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study looked at 1,000 adults aged 40-80 with type 2 diabetes or obesity to find the best way to screen for advanced liver scarring (fibrosis) caused by fatty liver disease. Researchers compared different non-invasive blood tests and elastography (a special ultrasound) to see which combination most accurately identifies those who truly need a liver specialist. The goal is to reduce unnecessary referrals to hepatology clinics while still catching serious cases.
