Vitamin B3 pill may boost aging brains, new study hopes
NCT ID NCT05483465
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a daily dose of nicotinamide riboside (a form of vitamin B3) can improve blood flow and activity in the brains of healthy adults aged 60 to 85. Over 8 weeks, 214 participants will take either the supplement or a placebo. Researchers will measure brain blood flow and electrical activity to see if the supplement helps keep the aging brain healthier.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Nicotinamide riboside (a form of vitamin B3)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple supplement to help maintain brain health and memory in older adults.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small, early-phase trial focused on measuring blood flow changes, not memory or thinking ability directly. The supplement may not produce noticeable benefits, and results may not apply to everyone.
