New mouthwash could shield cancer patients from agonizing mouth sores

NCT ID NCT07325383

Summary

This study is testing whether a mouthwash containing N-acetylcysteine (NAC) can safely prevent painful mouth sores (mucositis) in adults undergoing stem cell transplants. About 106 patients will be randomly assigned to use either the NAC mouthwash or a placebo mouthwash, and neither they nor their doctors will know which one they get. The goal is to see if the NAC mouthwash reduces the number and severity of these sores, which are a common and debilitating side effect of transplant treatment.
