First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tested whether N-acetylcysteine (NAC), an over-the-counter supplement, can help people who use both tobacco and cannabis cut back or quit. Fifty-nine adults who smoked cigarettes and used cannabis took NAC or a placebo for 12 weeks. Researchers tracked changes in days of use, number of cigarettes, cravings, and dependence. The goal was to see if NAC reduces use of both substances.
