Common supplement tested as potential aid for quitting smoking and weed

NCT ID NCT04627922

Summary

This study tested whether N-acetylcysteine (NAC), an over-the-counter supplement, could help people quit both cigarettes and cannabis. 59 adults who regularly used both substances were randomly assigned to take either NAC or a placebo pill daily for 8 weeks, while also receiving weekly counseling. The goal was to see if NAC reduced cravings and use of both tobacco and cannabis more effectively than counseling alone.
