Could a common antioxidant save newborns from deadly sepsis?
NCT ID NCT07380347
First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study tests whether adding N-acetylcysteine (NAC) to standard care helps newborns with sepsis. Sepsis causes dangerous inflammation and cell damage. NAC may reduce this damage by boosting the body's defenses. The trial will enroll 50 near-term and term infants to see if NAC improves organ function, lowers hospital stay, and reduces death.
